Ideal for beginners and mobile players, the Yamaha PSS-A50 is aimed at musicians looking for a phrase recorder on the keyboard to inspire new musical ideas. Fun to experiment with, it is compact and lightweight enough to play sitting on your couch or carry in your backpack on road trips or to jam sessions, house parties, or even the recording studio.
The PSS-A50 features 37 touch-sensitive mini keys that employ technology borrowed from the company's acclaimed Reface series of synthesizers to deliver great touch, feel, and expressive power. It comes with 40 sounds ranging from piano to brass, synths, organ, and more, and it offers two drum kits. Practice along with the metronome function, transpose and tune the keyboard, and add sustain or portamento to your sounds at the push of a button.
There are 138 auto-accompaniment phrases (arpeggios) that can play drum beats and melodic patterns using piano, bass, guitar, and synth chords—giving you a backing band at the touch of a key. To kickstart your creativity, the Phrase Recorder enables you to loop and play back your own recorded phrases. Add variety by applying motion effects to your sounds with filter, pitch, and modulation effects (34 total).
Monitor your performance through the built-in speaker, or plug in headphones to listen without disturbing people around you.
By connecting the PSS-A50 to a computer via the included USB cable, you can use this instrument as a master keyboard to enter MIDI data in your music-production software. The unit runs on four AA batteries (available separately), via USB when plugged into a computer, or using a USB power adapter (available separately).
