The UCG102 acts as a USB interface, receiving the signal from your guitar via a 1/4'' input jack then converting that into digital information to use with your computer. The included software package simulates guitar amplifiers and stomp boxes, giving you a range of plugins and effects to mould the sound you're looking for. The unit also features a 1/4'' headphone jack and Phones volume dial, letting you monitor your sound while you record. Also featured is a Clip LED that signifies when the signal is too hot.
The Behringer UCG102 also has a range of free download software available from the Behringer site to let you record, edit and manipulate your audio to get the sound you're aiming for. One of the most significant free download available is for Audacity which is a program for Windows and Mac computers for editing and recording audio. Included with the UCG102 is Native Instruments ''AC Box Guitar Combo'' which emulates the most famous classic british amps, producing the original cabinet response with all the effects to accentuate the sound. A precision tuner, metronome and a range of stomp boxes are also included for a range of real amplifier tones.
